Ginger Griffis: co-owner, teacher, craniosacral therapist
Ginger has been practicing yoga practically since birth, at which time her mom was teaching classes for parents and babies. She continued until age 5, then took a break for about 20 years until she moved to Seattle and rediscovered yoga, first at the YMCA with teacher, Fran Gallo, and then later with 8 Limbs Yoga Centers, continuing for the past 20 years with many different teachers and types of yoga at various studios around Seattle and in home practice.
During her 200-hour certification training at 8 Limbs, Ginger continued to develop her personal style of yoga. She approaches yoga as a holistic endeavor, incorporating intention-setting, spiritual connection, yoga principles, focus on the lines of energy throughout the body, as well as proper alignment in asana to maximize the benefits of each pose, open the paths of prana throughout the body and energy field, and to preserve the health and well-being of the body and its joints long-term. Release of stuck energy and emotions within the body is at the heart of her approach.
She loves teaching beginning as well as advanced students. People brand new to yoga find her clear and specific instructions and offerings of multiple approaches to various poses to make yoga very accessible and enjoyable right from the beginning. For more advanced students, her creative sequencing and vinyasas offer challenge in an organic way with many delicious restorative asanas in the mix.
Pranayama, meditation, and chanting are dear to her heart and she follows the yogic principle that asana and pranayama are gateways to deepening one’s meditation practice and thus one’s connection with whatever one considers divine energy.
Ginger is also a certified Craniosacral Therapist and you can schedule an appointment with her at the studio during the non-class times. Learn more here.
In her free time, Ginger’s main hobby is singing in choirs (Ancora and Ave Renaissance Women’s Choir currently). You can find some samples of her singing here. She also enjoys taking nature photos on long walks, reading, organizing, and the usual hanging out with friends and loved ones, among other things.
