Yoga Nidra class starts with some gentle movements, warmups, and stretches. Then you will settle in to a comfortable savasana (resting) position for the remainder of the class. From there, the teacher’s voice will guide you through a meditation in which you will set an intention (or Sankalpa, or heart’s desire, in Sanskrit). From there, you will let go of your intention and float free into a sensory journey, following the guiding voice of the teacher, sometimes comprehending what is being said, sometimes just allowing the sound of the voice to anchor you in the present moment. You will leave feeling peaceful and rejuvenated at the very least; deep healing can also occur as you allow your brain waves to slow down and drop into a deep yogic sleep, halfway between full wakefulness and sleep.
